My Muse

I've had a lot of people ask me how I got started in writing. Also why I quit my job to become an author, how long I've been writing for, and if I actually think I can do it. Basically, people ask a lot of questions about this journey I've started because, at 29 years old, it may seem a little crazy to jump ship on a nice stable career and pursue a dream.
Well, let me answer all of those questions.

Behold, the Little E.
Cute, isn’t he? Mess-maker, world’s best hugger, and champion high-fiver. In addition to those and many other accolades, he also happens to have Down Syndrome.
After his birth, my eyes were opened to the amazing potential individuals with special needs have. All it takes is a little understanding, support, and accommodation from our society for these people to have fulfilling, impactful lives. As my son grew older, I realized that if I wanted to teach him that he is capable of anything he puts his mind to, I needed to start subscribing to that philosophy myself.
I quit my job, joined a writing group, and finished three books in one year. My career as an author isn't just a pipe dream anymore. It's an inevitability because I flat out refuse to stop trying.
Every time I feel myself getting discouraged or questioning if I really have what it takes, I look at my little guy. Everything I do is for him, from my writing to my music to the dishes I grudgingly slog through every morning. He is my inspiration, my muse, my constant proof that there is good in the world.
As writers, I think we have to have a reason for why we do what we do. It's too hard a field to not have a reason. Whenever you get discouraged about your writing, remember your reason and recommit.
